LeBron Hair Restoration Journey

LeBron James’ hair is like that of a typical African American type i.e., curly, and dense, and as a player, he always kept a buzz cut. Like most men, LeBron too started to experience Alopecia i.e., male pattern baldness. In his mid-20s, hair receding is visible in many of LeBron’s pictures and honestly, it made him look slightly older.  From 2005 to 2008, the hair loss accelerated and prompted LeBron to take some steps to restore his hair, which is where he is spotted with a fuller head, especially on the crown of the head.

Some believe that LeBron probably used hair pieces and fibers for a fuller look, but others reject this theory. The basis of this is that Lebron is an active athlete which means he engaged in rigorous physical activity on a daily basis. Running around and playing physically demanding sports with hair pieces and fibers is not possible as the head gets sweaty and there is a good chance of the attached pieces flying off.

That’s why LeBron definitely underwent hair transplant surgery.

LeBron Hair Transplant Procedure

It is likely that LeBron James got FUT and FUE done to get the current look.

In some of his pictures, a scar is visible which indicates he had follicular unit transplantation (FUT). In this hair extraction method, a strip of hair is extracted via surgery and then hair grafts are harvested. Because of the surgery, it leaves a tiny scar. This method is quite successful and best suited for people with denser hair as it yields more grafts for transplant. LeBron’s natural hair is curly and dense hence, FUT was the best hair transplant method for his hair type.

Method

In LeBron’s hair restoration, it is likely that FUT methods were combined with the FUE method of extraction and implantation of hair follicles. In Follicular unit extraction (FUE) individual hair follicles are extracted and then planted in the recipient area. This gets seamless and natural hair restoration results. The crown area of LeBron James is covered seamlessly which points out that the FUE method was used during the hair transplant procedure. FUE is less invasive and healing time is fast, which is suitable for a busy and public figure like LeBron.

To cover the receding area on LeBron’s head, the hair experts probably used around 3500 to 4000 grafts. This is a good range to cover the area and give him a denser look.

Cost

Based on the type of procedure and the number of grafts, it is likely that LeBron James’ hair transplant cost him around $15k to $20k. for him this nothing
